I enjoy posting on Mastodon. However, I sometimes hold back because some content does not fit within 500 characters, and I do not enjoy making threaded posts. All Mastodon clients fail to offer a pleasant experience when it comes to drafting threads. This site exists to address that gap and to encourage me to write more. It gives me a natural place for longer notes that I can link to whenever a topic deserves more space.
Independence is important to me, so I wanted my first blog to be self‑hosted and bloat free, with as few dependencies as possible. Static HTML, baby!
Hang on. First blog? What’s with the dozens of posts here?
Well, yes. I’m not starting from a blank slate. Six years ago, I launched a website that collected all tweet‑threads I posted about restoring my Amiga computers. Although it looked very much like a blog, it actually consisted of tweets turned into a website. When Twitter died, I cleared out my account, leaving me no easy way to add new content. They’re good posts, Brent, so I imported everything into the new system as a series.
If you stumble over anything that looks broken, seems weird, or is hard to use, I would really appreciate feedback. In particular, I am interested in:
- Accessibility issues
- Layout problems on Android or unusual devices
